Multicultural Bereavement Peer Support
Artwork at the Portland Museum of Art

The Multicultural Peer Support Program continues to grow.  For the past five years we have worked with the Riverton Elementary School.  In the 2002-2003, The Center reached out to add Lincoln Middle School to our existing program.  The program now serves over forty children from eight countries.  The peer groups provide support to children who have relocated to the Portland area from war torn countries and experienced trauma and loss.  The program has an artwork and creative play focus.

One of the highlights this year was the collaborative project with the Portland Museum of Art in conjunction with the exhibition “Migrations: Humanity in Transition” photographs by Sebastiao Salgado.  The children from the Multicultural Program produced forty-one pieces of artwork which were exhibited at PMA under the title “Changing Worlds”.  Several thousand museum patrons viewed the exhibit.  The volunteers and staff are all very proud of the children’s artwork.
