The Center's Outreach and
Educations Program
provides education, assistance, training, crisis support, and networking to schools
and the community. Trained volunteers make presentations to
community groups, such as camps, schools, churches, parent groups,
and more. Outreach to schools includes working with Crisis Intervention
teams and/or teachers and administrators when
there is a loss or life threatening illness in the school.
Outreach also includes
training professionals through our annual bereavement conference which
attracts over 180 people from across Maine and New England. Attendees
are teachers, counselors, clergy, funeral directors, volunteers, and
staff from grieving programs. Finally, the Center offers telephone
support and educational materials on children and grieving to families
who live too far away to attend groups or others seeking our
resources. People of all ages can call the Center and talk
confidentially about the issues their grieving raises. Questions
concerning the involvement of children in wakes and funerals, general
parenting questions, support referrals and many other issues are all
addressed by the Center's staff members.
