Since its inception in 1988, The Center for Grieving Children has been a pioneer in using the Volunteer Peer Support Model.  Peer Support, using well-trained volunteers, offers an economically feasible approach to working with young people, families, and the community in many different settings and programs.  Join us and learn through hands on -experience how to make the Volunteer Peer Support Model work for your organization while you enjoy a week of self-care and nurture in beautiful Portland, Maine!

Peer Support as taught by The Center for Grieving Children, is an excellent model for any program, classroom, or agency that seeks to address the needs of children and families in transition.

Peer Support Model for Supporting Individuals dealing with Change, Grief, or Loss (30 hrs.)

Saturday October 18th - Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Based on the successful training model used at The Center for Grieving Children, this combination of didactic and experiential training is appropriate for anyone who is interested in supporting individuals in a peer support group setting.

Pre-requisite: completion or enrollment of 30-hr PSM training. 
Learn the philosophy and skills necessary to run a successful volunteer training and to cultivate and sustain a committed core of volunteers.

When illness enters, predictability leaves.  Learn how to develop or further your work with families facing illness.  Our 13 years of experience has taught us that flexibility and patience are what is most helpful at this time.  We have learned how to "ride the waves with families."
